Biking and walking |
Biking/cycling is a great way to get around Peel. Cyclists are encouraged to use the bike lanes located between the road and the sidewalk on many roadways. Rules of the roadIf the street doesn't have a bike lane, then you are able to ride on the road, closest to the sidewalk. Remember, cyclists are supposed to ride in the same direction as the moving vehicles and must obey the same traffic rules. So you must stop at all stop signs, signal with your hand when you are turning and watch for cars and pedestrians. All cyclists under 18 years old must wear an approved bicycle helmet according to Ontario law. Cyclists over 18 years old should still wear helmets for their own safety, but are not required to by law. Walk and Roll and Peel Ontario's Guide to Safe Cycling has more information. |

While there is no sure way to find a job, building your social and professional network is perhaps your most valuable strategy. It can also help you learn more about Canada and Peel Region as well as Canadian customs and other cultures given our diverse local population. Volunteers are highly valued and appreciated in Canada. Adding this experience to your résumé may help you gain a competitive edge over other job applicants. It is also not uncommon for volunteers to be offered a position at the organization in which they are working if they do a good job. Moreover, in Ontario, all high school students must complete 40 hours of community volunteer work before they can get their Ontario Secondary School Diploma. How to Volunteer? If you or your child are interested in volunteer opportunities, contact the YMCA, Charity village and VolunteerMBC. Also, most religious, social, other non-profit organizations and Region of Peel welcome volunteers to promote their cause too. |
