Getting Your Driver's Licence
When you arrive in Peel, you will want to get from place to place easily. If you want to move around by car, the first step is to get your driver's licence. You are legally required to carry your driver's licence with you whenever you drive. Your foreign driver's licence is valid for 60 days after you arrive in Canada.
The Ready for Ontario's Roads - Newcomers Guide contains information on how to obtain an Ontario licence and takes your previous driving experience into consideration.
If you cannot show acceptable proof of your driving experience, you will be considered a new driver and must start at the beginning of Level One.
If you are a first-time driver, or a new driver in Canada, you may want to take some driving lessons. It will help you pass the test and lower your insurance rate if you show proof of taking driving lessons.
