Daily Life Calendar
Once you and your family begin to settle into Peel, you'll find that there are many things to remember on a monthly basis. With the changes in seasons, the school year calendar and the different holidays, you'll find a calendar is helpful to allow you to maintain a good routine. Here's a calendar that provides general information to help you stay organized:
January
- Average temperatures range from - 2 °C to -10 °C.
- Weather conditions - snowy, icy and windy.
- Clothing needed for outside - warm coats, hats, mittens or gloves and winter boots to walk in the snow and ice.
- Information about schools - if there is a snowstorm, many schools will be closed or bus transportation cancelled. Please listen to the news reports on the television or radio.
- New Year's Day, January 1, is a public holiday in Ontario.
- Car reminders - make sure you have plenty of windshield washer fluid in your car.
- Home reminders - if you live in a house, remember to put salt on your driveway and walkways so you won't slip on the ice.
February
- Average temperatures range from - 2 °C to -10 °C.
- Weather conditions - snowy, icy and windy.
- Clothing needed for outside - warm coats, hats, mittens or gloves and winter boots are a must.
- Information about schools - if there is a snowstorm, many schools will be closed or bus transportation cancelled. Please listen to the news reports on the television or radio.
- Family Day, the third Monday of February, is a public holiday in Ontario.

March
- Average temperatures range from - 7 °C to 8 °C.
- Weather conditions - the weather starts to warm up and it can be windy, rainy but still cold.
- Clothing needed for outside - coats, hats, mittens or gloves, winter boots and umbrellas.
- Information about schools - there is one week in mid-March where schools are on a break. It is called March break and many community centres have programs for children while they are off for the week.
- Good Friday, the Friday before Easter, is a public holiday in Ontario.

- Home reminders - if you live in a house, remember to put salt on your driveway and walkways so you won't slip on the ice.
April
- Average temperatures range from - 1°C to 15 °C.
- Weather conditions - this is the beginning of spring so the weather will get warmer. But it is still rainy and the nights are cold.
- Clothing needed for outside - warm raincoats, hats, gloves, water-proof boots and umbrellas.
- Home reminders - Daylight savings time begins in April. Clocks must be turned forward one hour and the days begin to get longer as the sun sets at about 7 p.m.
May
- Average temperatures range from 5 °C to 20 °C.
- Weather conditions - cool, sunny and some rain.
- Clothing needed for outside - you can put away your winter coats, mittens/gloves, hats and boots. You will still need a lighter coat that is waterproof and an umbrella.
- Information about schools - you can send your children to school in lighter clothing. Make sure they have good running shoes for playing outside.
- Victoria Day, the Monday before May 25, is a public holiday in Ontario.
- Car reminders - you can change your snow tires to summer tires at this time. It's a good time to get an oil change and check-up to prepare for the warmer months ahead.
- Home reminders - this is a good time to do some spring cleaning and turn off the heat in your home. Many people begin gardening at this time.

June
- Average temperatures range from 10 °C to 26 °C.
- Weather conditions - the days in this month are warmer and sunny.
- Clothing needed for outside - you can put away your coats and begin to wear lighter clothing and sandals. You may need an umbrella from time to time but June is not as rainy as April or May.
- Information about schools - the school year ends and summer vacation begins at the end of June. Children will be off until September.
- Home reminders - the weather will become very hot by the end of June so if you do not have air conditioning, you may want to purchase a fan to help cool down your home.

July
- Average temperatures range from 20 °C to 30 °C.
- Weather conditions - this month is very sunny, hot, humid and dry.
- Clothing for outside - this month can get very hot. It is a good idea to purchase sun block to protect you and your children from sunburn. Make sure you have sunhats and sunglasses to protect your face and eyes from the sun.
- Canada Day, July 1, is a public holiday in Ontario.
- Festivals:
August
- Average temperatures range from 22 °C to 32 °C.
- Weather conditions - this month is very sunny, hot, humid and dry.
- Clothing needed for outside - sun block, sunhats and sunglasses.
- Information about schools - this is the last month of summer vacation for children. It's a good idea to start preparing for school, which will begin the first week in September. Children will need supplies for school and new clothing for the fall. If your child is starting school for the first time, this is the time to register them at your local school.
September
- Average temperatures range from 7 °C to 27 °C.
- Weather conditions - this is the last month of summer and the weather begins to cool down. It can vary from cool to very hot. Evenings are usually cool and the leaves begin to change colours to prepare for the winter.
- Clothing needed for outside - summer clothing and sandals are still fine for this weather. You may need a light jacket in the evenings.
- Information about schools - this is the beginning of the new school year and children are back to school.
- Labour Day, the first Monday in September, is a public holiday in Ontario.
- Festivals:
October
- Average temperatures range from 2 °C to 18 °C.
- Weather conditions - the colder weather sets in and the leaves begin to change colour.
- Clothing needed for outside - you will need coats and mittens/gloves in the evenings. It's a good idea to have an umbrella as well, in case it rains. Boots aren't necessary yet unless it begins to snow early.
- Information about schools - schools will be closed for Thanksgiving.
- Thanksgiving Day, the second Monday in October, is a public holiday in Ontario.
- Car reminders - this is a good time to change to winter tires. A check-up and oil change is a good idea to prepare for the upcoming winter months.
- Home reminders - many homeowners clean up their gardens at this time and turn on the heat in their homes. Daylight savings time changes and clocks are turned back one hour. The days become shorter with the sun setting at around 6 p.m.
November
- Average temperatures range from 10 °C to - 3 °C.
- Weather conditions - the weather gets colder and there may be light snow and rain during the month.
- Clothing needed for outside - coats, hats, boots, mittens/gloves and an umbrella.
- Remembrance Day, November 11, though not a statutory holiday, is a bank holiday in Ontario.
December
- Average temperatures range from 3 °C to - 10 °C.
- Weather conditions - the sub-zero temperatures feel colder because of the wind chill factor and there may be rain or snow, both of which are likely.
- Clothing needed for outside - coats, hats, boots, mittens/gloves and an umbrella.
- Information about schools - schools are closed for winter break the last week in December
- Christmas Day, December 25, is a public holiday in Ontario.
- Boxing Day, December 26, is a public holiday in Ontario.
