Pathways to Employment in Biotechnology
For Internationally Educated Life Science Professionals
The University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies, in partnership with The University of Toronto Mississauga and the Government of Ontario, is pleased to announce the launch of its innovative new program “Pathways to Employment in Biotechnology” scheduled to commence in January 2010.
The “Pathways to Employment in Biotechnology” program offers university-level training in biotechnology fundamentals and Canadian culture and communications to Internationally Educated Professionals with backgrounds in fields such as chemistry, biology, bio-chemistry and related engineering topics. It prepares life science professionals to work in Canada at levels commensurate with their education and experience.
The program will be offered at no cost to successful applicants.
Specific program components include:
- Approximately 160 hours of instruction in areas such as biotech essentials, Canadian workplace culture, and communication training and career development
- A Certificate in Canadian Biotechnology Enterprise
- Individual credential assessments
- Experienced biotech mentors for each participant and qualified biotech instructors drawn from the industry
- Participation in a leading-edge university series and optional participation in Masters level courses
- Exposure to biotech companies
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be a permanent resident of Canada (this includes convention refugees)
- Must be able to demonstrate a background in life sciences, such as a diploma or degree, from outside Canada
- Must be able to demonstrate fluency at Canadian Language Benchmark Level 8 or better
- Must be highly motivated and able to commit to full-time, in-class instruction for up to 12 weeks starting January 2010, May 2010, or September 2010.
