Several important changes are being made to the Canada Citizenship Act after Bill C-6 was given Royal Assent on June 19, 2017. These changes will be phased in with some taking place immediately, others in fall 2017 and the final modifications in early 2018.

Between January 3 and February 2, 2017, Canadian citizens and permanent residents who want to apply as sponsors must first complete an online form on the IRCC website to express interest in applying to sponsor their parents or grandparents.
The online form will be available for 30 days, from noon Eastern Standard Time (EST) on January 3, 2017, to noon EST on February 2, 2017.

Effective Novemeber 19, 2016 IRCC is making changes to Express Entry. It includes awarding points for job offers to eligible candidates already in Canada on Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) exempt work permits, and to international students who completed their studies in Canada. To give travellers and airlines more time to prepare for changes when flying to or transiting through Canada, the government is extending the leniency period for the  Electronic Travel Authorization  (eTA) requirement until November 9, 2016.
