Colleges and Universities

University of Toronto Mississauga welcome sign

After high school, there are many post-secondary options available if you or your children want to pursue higher education.

Ontario has 18 universities. Peel Region has one university located in Mississauga, which is the University of Toronto, Mississauga campus (or UTM). Along with traditional undergraduate, masters and doctoral programs, UTM offers several highly sought-after degree options. It also has an International Centre which provides information and support for international students with a study permit.

Universities offer a variety of programs in many fields of study, including:

  • Undergraduate programs where students can receive a bachelor degree
  • Graduate programs leading to masters and doctorate degrees
  • Continuing education programs and certificates, including distance and part-time programs
  • Programs offered by colleges and universities, in a special partnership, that let students earn a university degree and a college diploma at the same time

Public Colleges

There are 28 public colleges in Ontario. Many colleges have more than one campus location, which means students can take full-time and part-time courses at more than 100 locations across the province.

Peel Region has one college, Sheridan College, with campuses located in Brampton and Mississauga. Sheridan College offers a variety of programs for newcomers and international students.
