Registering your Child for School

Ontario has four government-funded school systems:

English public schools are open to all students. Catholic schools are open to all students who are baptized Roman Catholic, and to children of Roman Catholic parents. Generally, French language schools are open to all students seeking a French language education.

Attendance is free up to the end of Grade 12. At some of these schools, parents may be required to pay extra for some supplies and equipment.

All government-funded schools are co-educational, meaning they accept boys and girls, and most do not require children to wear uniforms.

The Peel District School Board is the English public board in Peel that offers public education from kindergarten to grade 12.

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is the English Catholic board in Peel that offers public education from kingergarten to grade 12. Children can enroll in this board based on the following requirements:

French public schools

Conseil scolaire de district du Centre-Sud-Ouest is the French public board that covers Peel region and other areas of south-west and central Ontario and offers public education from kindergarten to grade 12.

Certain criteria usually must be met to allow your child to attend a school in the Conseil scolaire de district du Centre-Sud-Ouest or any other French public school board in Ontario. French Catholic schools

Conseil scolaire de district catholique Centre-Sud is the French Catholic board that covers Peel and other areas in southern and central Ontario. The Board offers Catholic education from kindergarten to grade 12.

Certain criteria usually must be met to allow your child to attend a school in the Conseil scolaire de district catholique Centre-Sud. Students must pay tuition fees to attend private schools.

Private schools
Private schools also offer elementary and secondary education. Private schools may be partially funded by the government, but students must pay tuition fees to attend them. They often require students to wear uniforms. The Ministry of Education maintains an up-to-date list of private schools in Ontario.
